Genetic Engeneering - 2008
“Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, dead end or sustainable development?”
Our first meeting was between 22 and 30 November 2008 and was hosted by the schools: ISTITUTO PROFESSIONALE DI STATO PER I SERVIZI COMMERCIALI E TURISTICI “ LUIGI EINAUDI” in Palermo, Sicília and the 7TH PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL OF PATRAS “7ο ΕΠΑΓΓΕΛΜΑΤΙΚΟ ΛΥΚΕΙΟ ΠΑΤΡΑΣ” in Patras, Greece.
At this meeting, the Escola Profissional de Fermil, Celorico de Basto was represented by three students from the course of Technician of Electric Instalation (Joel Cunha; David César e Filipe Alexandre) and two teachers.
The trip was made by plane and had the following connections: Oporto – Rome – Palermo – Rome – Athens – Patras – Athens – Rome – Oporto. Six flights, an enriching experience of sensations. Lifting, watching land and the clouds below us… One of the connections was a bit rough. Another new experience was learning how to be in an airport.

Day 22 - Saturday
The connection Rome-Palermo allowed us to leave the airport and do some sightseeing in Rome, São Pedro square, the Coliseum, Constantino’s Arch and Fontana di Trevi.

From the airport to the city we went by bus, heading to Politiama square (at midnight) where some scicilian teachers and families who hosted our students were wainting. The studentents went with their new families and the teachers drove us to “Ponte Hotel”.

Day 23 - Sunday
Guided visit to the city of Palermo by the teacher Ida Mariolo. Lunch at Mondello beach; in the afternoon vitsiting the Cappuccini catacombs. Dinner at “ Beati Paoli” restaurant near the harbour.

Day 24 - Monday
Visiting Monreale, to see the Cathedral.

Visiting the “Zootechnical Institute of Palermo” where we were able to see the work presentation about the using of donkey milk on the feeding of babies who are allergic to casein and a presentation of the experiences and results of lung transplants by the doctor of the Institute and I.S.M.E.T.T.

Lunch at Padermo school, “pasta party”. In the afternoon we watched the students presentations of their countries. Our school presented our country and our region and a work on the ladybirds.

Dinner was gently offered by the school at “Addaura Hotel”.

Day 25 - Tuesday
On this day, we made an excursion to the Etna volcano and the Taormina village, transport offered by the host school. Free lunch.

Day 26 -Wednesday
Trip to Athens by plane, and then to Patras by bus. The teachers were at the hotel and had dinner at a restaurant.
Day 27 Thursday
Visiting the place where Patras carnival is being prepared. Visiting the University of Patras – “University of Patras-Department of Green Chemistry” where we attended a presentation made by its president, Mr. Poulos, about his chemical experiences which promote a sustainable environment. Café at «Πάρκο της Ειρήνης»
Visiting na orthodox church. At the end of the day there was a dance lesson of tradicional greek dances, anda t night, the dinner, with music, for teachers and students, where they could present what they had learnt in the dancing lessons.

Day 28 -Friday
In the morning we visited the “Porto” wine basements. Visiting “Ancient Olympia” where the ancient Greek Olympic Games took place.
At night, we went to a place where people danced tradicional dances and people threw flowers to the dancers.

Day 29 - Saturday
Leaving to Athens. Brief visit to Athens.
Day 30 - Sunday
Departure.
